The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team was defeated by Lynchburg 74-40.
Gabrielle Athy led the team with 10 points shooting 4-for-8 from the field, and had nine rebounds,
Grace Harriman scored nine points shooting 4-for-11 from the field, and grabbed one rebound.
How It Happened:
The Hornets scored the first four points of the game, but the Marlins countered scoring the next four points to tie the game at 4-4. Lynchburg went on a 5-0 run to lead 9-4. The host led 15-8 after the first quarter.
Lynchburg kept the momentum in the second quarter and built a 26-12 lead. The Marlins offense turned on and scored nine points over the next five minutes to cut the lead down to 39-21 heading into the break.
Coming out of the break, VWU outscored the Hornets 8-7 to bring the score to 46-29 midway through the quarter. Lynchburg regained momentum and led 58-32 heading into the final quarter.
Virginia Wesleyan started the fourth quarter well with a 4-0 run, but the Hornets outscored the Marlins the rest of the quarter to seal the win in the regular season finale.
