Virginia Wesleyan (8-2, 2-2 ODAC) traveled to Bridgewater, VA this afternoon to play Bridgewater College in an ODAC Conference game. The Marlins were winners in this match 5-1.
The Marlins resilient attack began early in the game when
Ilan Mejia scored off of a penalty kick in the 10th minute to make the score 1-0.
In the 15th minute,
Ryan McAdams took advantage of a throw-in when he heaved a pass to
JaMarhe Wills. Wills then flicked a header to
Zach Bittler, who then placed a ball in the back of the net to push their lead to 2-0.
In the 19th minute,
Nolan Schulte scored on a breakaway to push the Marlins lead up to three.
Both teams held their composure and stood tall for the rest of the half making the halftime score 3-0.
The Marlins' continued their wonderful display on offense in the 2nd half. In the 63rd minute the Eagle's goalkeeper deflected a shot to
Christopher Garcia Ortega. Ortega then passed to
Juan Tovar, who placed the ball into the net to make the score 4-0.
In the 73rd minute,
Aria Kimiavi shot a ball with power behind it into the back of the net from a few yards outside the box to put the Marlins up 5-0.
In the 82nd minute, the Eagles scored a goal to put the score at 5-1.
The Marlins were happy to win another away game to make them 2-0 on the road this season. The Marlins will drive to Ashland, VA to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon on October 4th at 4:00 PM.
