Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team (6-1) were defeated by Washington & Lee 1-0 in a close match.

The match started off with many contested plays as the Generals were in control of the attack to start.

Eventually, the Marlins gained back momentum of their own and developed an attack which set up shots from Everett McCloskey, Juan Tovar, and Nate Mitchell.

In the 14th minute, JaMarhe Wills fired a shot that hit off the right woodwork for the Marlins.

Both teams had multiple opportunities to get on the scoreboard in the 2nd half. Finally in the 74th minute, the Generals crossed the ball into the box and kicked one into the back of the net, putting the Generals up 1-0.

The Marlins attack pushed for the remaining time but couldn't find an opportunity to score.

The Marlins will hit the road for the first time this season and will take on Ferrum College on Saturday, September 23rd, at 2:00 p.m.
