The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (1-3) was edged by Stevenson 4-3.
Katherine Druiett led the offense scoring two goals on four shots on goal,
Lauren Hedspeth scored one goal with three shots on goal, and
Ava Stauch had one assist in the game.
Druiett scored the opening goal of the contest at the 12:23 mark to take a 1-0 lead. The Mustangs scored two goals to lead 2-1 at halftime.
Stevenson scored its third goal in the 43rd minute of play to lead 3-1.
The Marlins wasted no time scoring their own goal three seconds after the Mustangs goal to cut the lead down to 3-2. The Marlins scored at the start of the fourth quarter tying the game at 3-3.
The Marlins fought hard holding on to the tie for six minutes. However, Stevenson found the back of the net in the 55th minute of play to secure a late lead that gave them the 4-3 win.
DJ Holsclaw played three quarters, made nine saves, and allowed three goals.
Emma Wehr played on quarter allowed one goal, and had one save in the game.
