VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - Virginia Wesleyan University Executive Director for Intercollegiate Athletics Andrea Hoover-Erbig is excited to unveil new coaching appointments for the 2023-24 academic year.
Hoover-Erbig has handpicked an exceptional lineup of coaches to lead the university's athletic teams to new heights. Their expertise, combined with the university's commitment to excellence, promises an extraordinary year ahead for the Marlins, said Dr. Scott D. Miller, President of the University.
The new appointments include:

Shane Kohler as Head Men's Soccer Coach,

Dillon May as Director of Men's/Women's Cross Country and Track & Field,

K'Vonte Scott as Assistant Director of Men's/Women's Cross Country and Track & Field, and

Madison Heck as Head Women's Lacrosse Coach.
Hoover-Erbig said, "Today is an exciting day for our athletic program as we announce the appointment of our excellent new coaches. They bring a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to their respective sports, and we are thrilled to have them join our team."
In his previous role as an assistant coach for the last three years, Kohler played a crucial role in the success of the Marlins, contributing to their consecutive 12-4-4 records. Before joining the Marlins, he served as an assistant coach at Moravian (PA) University. At Moravian, he nurtured the talents of seven All-Conference honorees over the course of three seasons. Notably, under his guidance, Moravian achieved the remarkable feat of reaching back-to-back Landmark Conference championship matches in 2018 and 2019, with their 2018 appearance marking a historic milestone for the program. The Greyhounds put together three of the best years since 2002 with a 26-21-7 record, and in 2018, the Moravian Coaching Staff was named the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Kohler played collegiate soccer at Rowan (NJ) University from 2011-2015. He started 76 of 79 games in the midfield for the Profs and was a two-time NJAC All-Conference honoree (2013, 2015). Kohler helped the Profs to several postseason appearances including a 2012 NJAC Conference Championship appearance as well as a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2015.
In the spring, May became a part of the Marlins organization as the Assistant Director and has recently been promoted to the position of Director. Before joining the Marlins, he served as an assistant coach for the Track and Field and Cross Country Programs at Messiah University. May's own running journey began during his time as a collegiate athlete at the University of Montana. Following his graduation, he relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where he taught and coached at Erie High School while also pursuing his own running career with the Boulder Track Club.
During his time in Boulder, he won the 2019 Sweathouse Half Marathon in Victor, Montana, the 2019 Boise Downhill Half Marathon, and the 2019 Seattle Half Marathon.
A Virginia Beach native, Scott graduated from Princess Anne High School and went on to further his academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte campus, where he was a Decathlon athlete. During his time at UNCC, Scott was a two-time Atlantic Sun Conference Champion in 2012 and 2013, as well as being C-USA Conference champion in 2014. He also earned NCAA Division 1 All-American honors as a Decathlete in 2015.
Scott graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication- Mass Media. During his coaching career he has coached as the Head Throws Coach for Jacksonville Atlantic Track Club in Jacksonville, FL from 2013-2021. He has been the Assistant Coach specializing in Multi and Throws since this past year.
Heck joins Virginia Wesleyan as the new head women's lacrosse coach. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Georgian Court University, and she pursued further education at East Stroudsburg University, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Management and Leadership.
Heck, an accomplished athlete, excelled during her time at Georgian Court University. She was honored as a four-time All-Conference recipient and a three-time First-Team All-Conference selection. Her contributions were instrumental in leading her team to victory, securing the CACC Tournament Championships in 2018, 2019, and 2021. In 2021, she was recognized as the Tournament MVP. Additionally, her exceptional performance earned her the title of IWLCA First-Team All-Region in the same year.
After her successful stint at Georgian Court, Heck continued her athletic journey at East Stroudsburg University. There, she played a pivotal role in leading her team to become PSAC Champions and Atlantic Region Champions. Her exceptional skills were acknowledged with a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team.
Before joining Virginia Wesleyan, she coached at Barnegat High School, where she played a pivotal role in securing the team's third consecutive conference championship. Additionally, Heck served as the head coach at 3-point Lacrosse Club and during the summer of 2019, she successfully coached the T-3 Lacrosse Club.
