The No. 3 seed Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (34-9, 16-4 ODAC) went 1-1 today to punch their ticket into the semi-finals of the ODAC Championship Tournament. Dropping game one to No. 2 seed Randolph-Macon and winning game two against No. 7 seed Randolph 7-6.
Madison Hudson led the team as she went 3-for-6 with two home runs, scored two runs, and tallied three RBI,
Game One:
A tight contest between some of the ODAC's best as both teams were held scoreless through two innings. The Marlins struck first in the top of the third with a solo homer from
Madison Hudson to lead 1-0. The Yellow Jackets responded with one run to tie the game at 1-1.
Madison Hudson was on fire and hit her second home run of the day to give the Marlins a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Randloph-Macon scored five unearned runs to seal the 6-2 win over Virginia Wesleyan.
Madison Hudson led the team as she went 2-for-3 with two home runs,
Caitlin Myers went 2-for-3 at-bat, and
Sarah Prosser went 1-for-3.
Emily Seale got the start, pitched 5.0 innings, allowed six unearned runs on seven hits, and struck out three.
Emma Adams came in relief pitched 0.2 innings, and tallied two strikeouts.
Game Two:
The Marlins had to take on No. 7 seed Randolph next, where the Wildcats came out strong scoring three runs in the top of the first. Virginia Wesleyan responded with
Sarah Prosser hitting a lead-off single, and
Laci Campbell hit a bunt single and stole second to put runners on second and third for
Alison Pollack. Pollack hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Prosser, and a throwing error by the left fielder scored Campbell to bring the score to 3-2.
VWU took the lead in the third inning, Campbell walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch to start the inning. Then, Pollack reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a throwing error that scored Campbell to tie the game.
Emma Adams singled to left field to score Pollack, and
Emily Halloway stole second and third and scored as the pickoff attempt by the catcher went out of play to give the Marlins a 5-3 lead.
In the fifth inning, the Marlins extended their lead as
Caitlin Myers reached first on an error by the third baseman and stole second before
Madison Hudson singled to left field to extend their lead to 6-3.
Virginia Wesleyan increased their lead in the sixth, with
Julia Piotrowski leading off with a bunt single, stealing second, and advancing to third on a passed ball.
Sarah Prosser grounded out to first to allow Piotrowski to score to lead 7-3.
The Marlins held off a late surge from the Wildcats, who scored three runs in the top of the seventh but fell short. Virginia Wesleyan went on to win 7-6 to punch their ticket to the semi-finals.

Sarah Prosser went 1-for-3, scored one run, and recorded one RBI, and
Alison Pollack went 0-for-2, scored one run, and had two RBI.

Lauren Bible pitched 2.0 innings, allowed three runs, and three hits.
