The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (30-8, 14-4 ODAC) sweep Ferrum winning game one 14-5, and Bible shut out the Panthers in game two to win 15-0.
Lauren Bible led the team as she pitched a perfect game in game two allowing no runs, no hits, and didn't allow a single player to reach first base.
Abigail Craige also had a day going 2-for-3 with two home runs including a grand slam for a total of seven RBI.
Game One:
Ferrum scored in the top of the first as a passed ball on a strikeout scored a run from third. However, the Marlins responded in the bottom of the first as
Sarah Prosser had a lead-off walk,
Laci Campbell hit a bunt single, and
Alison Pollack was hit by a pitch to load the bases for
Emma Adams who hit a grand slam home run to give the Marlins a 4-1 lead.
Virginia Wesleyan added one run in the second with
Brooke Anderson hitting a lead-off single and stealing second and third. Then, Prosser singled up the middle to score Anderson to lead 5-1.
The Marlins were hot as they scored five runs in the third inning.
Caitlin Myers walked to start the inning and stole second base followed by a single from
Julia Piotrowski putting runners on the corners, and
Halee Hawkins walked to load the bases for
Sarah Prosser who singled up the middle to score Myers from third. Next,
Laci Campbell tripled to right center field scored all three runners, and give VWU a 9-1 lead.
Alison Pollack singled to left field to score Campell from third to extend the host lead to 10-1.
The Panthers countered in the top of the fourth scoring three runs to cut the lead down to 10-4. Virginia Wesleyan came up to the plate and increased their lead. Myers had a lead-off walk, and Piotrowski singled through the right side before
Autumn Boothe hit a single up the middle to score Myers and move Piotrowski to third.
Brooke Anderson singled to center field to score Piotrowski and bring the score to 12-4. With runners on second and third
Jenna Elswick hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring
Haley Sadler and moving Anderson to third.
Joslyn Woodard pinch hit and grounded out to second base that advanced Anderson home to give the Marlins a 14-4 lead.
Laci Campbell led the offense as she went 3-for-3 with a triple, scored two runs, three RBI, and one stolen base,
Emma Adams went 1-for-3 with a grand slam to record four RBI, and
Brooke Anderson went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, stole three bases, and had one RBI.
Emily Seale started the game and pitched 3.1 innings, allowed two runs on five hits, and tallied seven strikeouts, and
Emma Adams came in relief and registered the win improving to 6-3 this season, pitched 1.2 innings, and allowed one run with two strikeouts.
Game Two:
Virginia Wesleyan started strong scoring three runs in the first inning as
Sarah Prosser hit a lead-off single followed by
Laci Campbell getting hit by a pitch before
Alison Pollack hit a home run to left field.
The Marlins rallied in the second as
Jaya Diggs-Hagwood singled up the middle and stole second before
Sarah Prosser doubled to left center field to score Diggs-Hagwood.
Alison Pollack walked followed by batter
Emma Adams who reached first on an error by the third baseman to score Prosser.
Olivia Knight walked to load the bases for Abigail Criag who hit the second grand slam of the day to give the Marlins a 9-0 lead.
VWU added five more runs in the third inning.
Emily Tucker pinch hit for
Laci Campbell and walked followed by a double down the left field line by
Brooke Powell to put runners on second and third for
Mackenzie Swanson who singled to left field allowing Tucker to score.
Elizabeth Pennington singled up the middle to score Powell from third before Craig hit her second home run of the game to score three runs and give the Marlins a 14-0 lead.
Virginia Wesleyan scored one more run in the fourth as
Mirandah Jenkins got walked with the bases load to give the Marlins a 15-0 lead.
