The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (32-8, 16-4 ODAC) swept ODAC foe Bridgewater 11-3 in game one, and 8-0 in game two.
Before the start of the second game of the doubleheader, the Marlins honored its three-member senior class, composed of;
Brooke Anderson,
Alison Pollack, and
Caitlin Myers.
Alison Pollack led the team going 3-for-4 with a double and triple, scored three runs, stole two bases, and tallied eight RBI,
Sarah Prosser went 4-for-5, stole two bases, and scored three runs, and
Caitlin Myers went 2-for-4 with a home run, scored two runs, and registered two RBI.
Game One:
Sarah Prosser hit a lead-off single in the first inning, followed by
Laci Campbell getting hit by a pitch to put runners on second and third.
Alison Pollack walked before
Emma Adams reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop to score Campbell from second. Then, pinch runner
Emily Halloway stole second to advance Pollack home to take a 2-0 lead.
Julia Piotrowski reached first with an error by the shortstop to score Halloway and give the Marlins a 3-0 lead.
The Marlins struck again as
Madison Hudson singled up the middle,
Brooke Anderson walked, and Prosser hit a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. With runners in scoring position,
Laci Campbell singled through the right side to score Hudson. Pollack singled down the left field line and scored Campbell and Anderson to lead 6-0.
Brooke Anderson reached on a fielders choice followed by a single up the middle from Prosser, and
Laci Campbell walked to load up the bases.
Alison Pollack reached first on an error by the third base to score Anderson and Prosser.
Emma Adams hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Campbell, and
Caitlin Myers hit a two-run home run to lead 11-0.
The Eagles had a late three-run surge in the fourth inning, but the Marlins' defense held strong and went on to win 11-3.
Alison Pollack went 1-for-2, scored two runs, stole two bases, and had four RBI,
Caitlin Myers went 1-for-2 with a home run, scored one run, and recorded two RBI, and
Sarah Prosser went 2-for-2, scored one run, and stole one base.
Emily Seale got her 15th win of the season in the circle for the Marlins, pitched 5.0 innings, allowed three runs on five hits, and had one strikeout.
Game Two:
In the first inning,
Laci Campbell singled to left field, followed by a triple from
Alison Pollack to take a 1-0 lead.
Emma Adams walked to put runners on the corners for
Julia Piotrowski who reached first on an error by the second baseman to score Pollack and lead 2-0.
Sarah Prosser singled up the middle before
Laci Campbell singled to third base advancing Prosser to second. Pollack doubled to right field scoring both runners to double the Marlins advantage at 4-0.
Brooke Anderson walked and stole second to start the fourth, then Prosser singled to the shortstop. With runners on second and third, Campbell grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Anderson to score from third. Then, Pollack flew out to right field scoring Prosser to give Virginia Wesleyan a 6-0 lead.
Myers got a lead-off walk to start the fifth,
Madison Hudson tripled down the right field line to score Myers, before
Olivia Knight hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Hudson and end the game.
Alison Pollack went 2-for-2 with a double and triple, scored one run, and tallied four RBI,
Laci Campbell went 2-for-3, scored two runs, and had one RBI, and
Sarah Prosser went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Lauren Bible pitched 5.0 innings in the win, allowed zero runs, and two hits, and registered three strikeouts.
