The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (26-8, 10-4 ODAC) swept Shenandoah in their doubleheader winning game one 3-2 and took game two 4-1.
Jenna Laird did well going 3-for-4 with a double, scored one run, and recorded one RBI,
Alison Pollack went 2-for-7 with a double and scored two runs, and
Emma Adams went 3-for-6.
Game One:
The Hornets struck first as they scored two unearned runs in the top of the second.
Virginia Wesleyan got on the board in the fourth with a lead-off double from
Alison Pollack, followed by a single from
Emma Adams that moved Pollack to third. Then,
Autumn Boothe hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored a run and cut the lead to 2-1.
The Marlins scored again in the fifth inning,
Jenna Laird pinch hit and hit a double to deep left center, and
Sarah Prosser hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Laird to third before
Laci Campbell flew out to the left field and scored Laird tying the game at 2-2.
Emma Adams hit a lead-off single in the sixth inning, then Boothe was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, and
Caitlin Myers grounded out to the second base and moved the runners to second and third. With one out,
Abigail Craige grounded out to second base to score
Emily Halloway to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.
Emma Adams led the offense going 3-for-3 at bat,
Jenna Laird went 1-for-1 with a double and scored one run, and
Laci Campbell went 0-for-2 with one RBI.
Emily Seale registered the win, pitching 7.0 innings, allowed two runs on six hits, and tallied five strikeouts.
Game Two:
The Hornets started the same as game one scoring one run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
VWU tied the game in the fourth inning, as
Autumn Boothe walked and pinch runner
Brooke Anderson stole second before
Jenna Laird got to first on a bunt single to put runners on the corners.
Olivia Knight walked to load the bases, followed by a sacrifice fly from Lauren Bibile to score Anderson.
The Marlins took the lead in the fifth by scoring two runs.
Alison Pollack doubled to left center, and Anderson reached first on an error by the pitcher to score Pollack. Laird singled through the left side to score Anderson from second to take a 3-1 lead.
In the sixth inning, Craig reached first on an error and pinch runner
Jaya Diggs-Hagwood stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch, before
Jenna Elswick grounded out to third base allowing Diggs-Hagwood to score to extend the Marlins lead to 4-1.

Lauren Bible did great in the win, pitched 7.0 inning, allowed one run on three hits, and tallied four strikeouts.
