The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team (5-21-1, 4-9-1 ODAC) lost to the No. 7 University of Lynchburg Hornets, 10-1.
The Hornets struck first and went up 2-0 over the Marlins in the second inning.
The Marlins scored in the fourth as Connor Hall reached on an error by the third baseman to start the inning, then Hanchey walked and Tanner Clements singled to the shortstop. Next, Samuel Kasprow hit a sacrifice fly to left field that drove in Connor Hall to make it a 2-1 game.
The Hornets added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to make the game 5-1.
Lynchburg added another run in the seventh before having a four-run eighth inning to bring the game out of reach for the Marlins at 10-1.
Tanner Clements went 2-for-4 with two singles for the Marlins, Ty Krantz went 1-for-1 after coming into the game to pinch hit, and Samuel Kasprow went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI.
Nick Beatty started for the Marlins in the loss, pitched five innings, gave up six hits and three runs, two of which were earned, and tallied two strikeouts. In relief, Charlie Britt pitched one inning and gave up two hits and two runs as well.
