Marlins Cruise Past WildCats on Senior Night

The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team (25-5, 12-0 ODAC) defeated Randolph College 3-0 to seal the ODAC regular season title and stay undefeated in conference play. 

Before the start of the match, the volleyball program honored its five-member senior class composed of; Cara Caruso, Morgan Ludovici, Emma Claytor, Abigail Mahoney, and Haley Sutton

After a heartfelt senior ceremony, the Marlins had no trouble getting fired up, as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead. The WildCats responded with a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 10-8 for the host. Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 5-0 run to lead 15-8, but Randolph came back with a 2-1 rally. VWU outscored the WildCats 9-1 the rest of the set to win 25-11. 

Virginia Wesleyan kept their momentum from the first set and built a 5-1 lead to start the set. The WildCats countered with a 4-0 run to tie the set at 5-5, but the Marlins came back and went on a 7-1 run to take a 12-6 lead. After two points for the WildCats, VWU went on a 4-0 run to lead 16-8. Randolph fought back with a 7-2 run to cut the lead down to 18-15, but the Marlins responded with a 6-2 run to lead 24-17 and went on to win set two 25 -19. 

In the third set, VWU took control with a 6-2 lead, but WildCats came back to cut the lead to 6-8. The Marlins slowly built a 14-8 lead, but extended their lead more with a 10-4 run to lead 24-12. Randolph had a late 4-1 surge, but the Marlins took set three 25-16. 

Abigail Mahoney led the offense with 11 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, four digs, and two block assists, Emma Claytor registered nine kills, with a .571 hitting percentage, four digs, one solo block, one block assist, and one service ace, and Hannah Smith had eight kills, with a .263 hitting percentage, two digs, one block assist, and one assist. 

Haley Sutton led the team with 25 assists, eight digs, and one kill, and teammate Kate Ayre had six kills with a team-best .857 hitting percentage.
