The No. 1 Marlins defeated the No. 4 Eagles of Bridgewater College 2-0 in the ODAC Semifinals today. The Marlins now advance to the ODAC finals against Washington & Lee on November 5th, at 2 PM.
The Marlins defense led by
Victoria Gonzalez,
Stephanie Koblish,
Sam Crawford, and
Lexi Soteriou held up extremely well in the 1st half. The ball was controlled by the Marlin's attack for most of the half and the defense only allowed two shots, neither of which were on goal.
In the 27th minute,
Alexis Miller possessed the ball just outside the box and she delivered a pass back to
Lexi Soteriou. Soteriou then delivered a pass back to Miller, who took a touch inside and delivered a strike to the back of the net. This goal put the Marlins up 1-0.
The Marlins had seven corner kicks and shot 10 times in the 1st half.
In the 2nd half, the Eagles gained some momentum and threatened to score a few times.
Rachel Quigley did register two saves in the 2nd half, off of two shots by the Eagles.
In the 81st minute,
Sam Crawford crossed the ball into the penalty box to
Shyenne Diaz. Diaz then turned herself around and placed a ball at the feet of
Adrianna Gunther, the ball hit the post instead.
Adrianna Gunther then received the deflection and scored to make the score 2-0.
The Marlins registered 18 shots, seven of which were on goal in the game. The Eagles shot four times and two shots were on goal.
Women's soccer will host the No. 3 Generals of Washington & Lee this Sunday, November 5th, at 2 p.m. in the ODAC championship game.
