The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (5-7, 1-2 ODAC) defeated Sewanee 3-1.
The Marlins controlled the game in the first half as they outshot the Tigers 13-1, and tallied five corners compared to the Tigers' zero.
Katherine Druiett broke the deadlock as she scored in the 20th minute to give Virginia Wesleyan a 1-0 lead.
The game opened up after the break as
Shannon Gaffney gave the Marlins a 2-0 lead at the 46:00 minute mark with a nice shot. Later in the fourth quarter, Shannon scored again with a nice assist from
Ava Stauch to led 3-0.
Sewanee scored a goal in the 57th minute of play to bring the score to 3-1. Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Tigers 23-3, with 14 shots on goal compared to the visitors one, and had a 12-0 advantage in penalty corners.
