The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (6-7, 2-2 ODAC) defeated Sweet Briar in a 2-0 shutout win.

Head Coach Ryley van der Velde has improved the Marlins drastically, this is the first time since the 2018 season that the Field Hockey team has recorded six wins in a season. 

The Marlins started the game strong, putting pressure on the Vixens defense that gave Katherine Druiett the opportunity to score a goal in the first five minutes of the game. 

The Marlins' defense stayed strong and only allowed two shots on goal in the first half that goalie Emma Moody saved to give VWU a 1-0 lead at the break. 

Halftime adjustments from Sweet Briar worked as they recorded eight penalty corners and two shots on goal, but the Virginia Wesleyan defense stood strong and kept their 1-0 lead. Until the 48th minute when Ava Stauch took a shot from just inside the arc that Dani Poulsen deflected into the net to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead. 

Emma Moody and the defense had a great game, as the defense through 60 minutes only allowed four shots on goal and Moody stopped all four to come away with her first solo shutout of the season.
