Two Marlins Score First Career Goal in 6-0 Win Over Royals

The Virginia Wesleyan University field Hockey team (4-7, 1-2 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Eastern Mennonite University 6-0. 

Dani Poulsen and Ashlyn Boykin scored their first collegiate goals in the win over conference opponent Eastern Mennonite University. 

The Marlins started strong in the first quarter as Lauren Hedspeth scored off a great pass from Katherine Druiett to take a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute of the game. VWU doubled their lead as Ava Stauch assisted Mary Ruffin to lead 2-0.

Virginia Wesleyan continued their great play in the second quarter as they scored four goals. Dani Poulsen had her first goal of the season in the 19th minute to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead. Next, Katherine Druiett tallied her first goal of the game in the 21st minute to give the Marlins a 4-0 lead.  Ashlyn Boykin recorded the first goal of her collegiate career in the 28th minute and one minute later Dani Poulsen scored again to give the Marlins a 6-0 lead. 

VWU out shot the visitors 12-9, tallied eight saves compared to the Royals three, and each team had eight penalty corners. 

Dani Poulsen led the Marlins with two goals, Katherine Druiett notched one goal and one assist, and Lauren Hedspeth, Mary Ruffin, and Ashlyn Boykin each scored one goal. 

Emma Moody got the nod in net and improved to 1-1 on the season and made three saves in the first half.
