Marrone's Strike Push Marlins Past Shenandoah

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer (10-3-1, 6-0-1 ODAC) hosted Shenandoah University. The Marlins defended their home turf well a shutout 1-0 to move to first place in the ODAC.

The Marlins attack got started early with multiple shots early. In the first three minutes, Adrianna Gunther, Julia Marrone, and Alexis Miller registered shots. Lexi Soteriou also registered a shot that hit the crossbar and missed.

The Marlins also had 13 shots in the first half and five corner kicks. The Hornets registered seven shots in the first half as well. But the score stood at 0-0 at halftime.

In the 72nd minute, Lexi Soteriou placed a well-timed pass that bounced towards Julia Marrone. Marrone then used her space inside the box to finish the ball in the backside of the net to score the game-winning goal. This goal put the score at 1-0.

The Marlins were able to defend their goal well for the remainder of the half becuase of defenders Victoria Gonzalez, Sam Crawford, Lexi Soteriou, and Rachel Wilson

This win marks Rachel Quigley's 7th shutout of the season.

The Marlins will host the Generals of Washington & Lee this Saturday, October 21st at 6:00 PM.
