Men's Soccer (11-2-1, 5-2-1 ODAC) defeated Lynchburg University on a game-winning goal by first year midfielder
Josh Nevins. The Marlins pitched its fourth shutout of the season in 1-0 win.
The Marlins pressure started strong as
Juan Tovar and
Alex Moody both registered shots in the 1st minute of the game.
In the first half, the Marlins shot six times and the Hornets shot two times. The Marlins committed two fouls and the Hornets committed four fouls in the 1st half.
In the 84th minute,
Caleb Jackson sent a ball into the box and a Hornets defender headed the ball out to open space.
Josh Nevins settled the ball and shot a rocket to the upper right corner of the net to put the Marlins up 1-0.
The Hornets came close to scoring at the end of regulation, but
Jordan Smith had some great saves to seal the win. Smith tallied six saves through 90 minutes of play, improves to 8-2 overall, and recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
The Marlins currently sit at 2nd in the ODAC conference with their victory over the University of Lynchburg.
The Marlins will hit the road and travel to Greensboro, NC to take on Guilford College on October 18th at 4:00 PM.
