Field Hockey Edged By Generals in Overtime Thriller

The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (6-8, 2-3 ODAC) was edged by Washington & Lee 2-1 in overtime.

The Generals scored in the seventh minute of play to lead 1-0. The Marlins defense tightened up and only allowed five shots on the first half. Virginia Wesleyan managed four shots in the first half and four penalty corners that put pressure on the W&L defense.

The second half was very competitive with each team getting goal-scoring opportunities. In dramatic fashion, Ashlyn Boykin deflected a shot by Katherine Druiett that found the back of the net with 1:08 left in the game to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.

Due to a late green card given to Virginia Wesleyan, the hosts found themselves down in overtime.  The Generals took advantage of the open space and scored in the 62nd minute to win 2-1.

Emma Moody played 61:07 minutes, allowed two goals, and made seven saves in the game.
