Marlins Field Hockey drops 2-0 decision to Concordia-Wisconsin

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Marlins field hockey team fell to the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at a neutral site contest at Christopher Newport University.

FIRST HALF

  • Concordia took the early lead in the contest scoring the first goal 40 seconds into the start of play.
  • The teams remained scoreless the rest of the first quarter with CU taking six shots in the opening 15 minutes.
  • The Falcons again struck early scoring their second goal less than 40 seconds into the resumption of play taking a 2-0 lead.
  • Both teams manged to get off five shots in the second 15 minute quarter.

SECOND HALF

  • Neither team managed to find the back of the cage in the second half of play despite Concordia taking 15 shots over the two periods.
  • Marlin keeper Emma Wehr made 10 stops in those final two quarters. 
KEY STATS
  • Stephanie Hoke took all five shots by the Marlins in the game, all coming in the second quarter.
  • Emma Wehr collected 14 saves in goal playing all 60 minutes in the cage.

The Marlin field hockey team enjoys some time off after playing five games in nine days before returning to action on Friday, Sept. 16. Virginia Wesleyan travels to Ralegh, NC to fave the Avenging Angels of Meredith College at 6 PM.
