SALEM, Virginia - The No. 14 ranked, third seeded Virginia Wesleyan softball team knocked off the No. 13, second-seeded Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College 4-3 on day one of the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Softball Tournament at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, VA. The Marlins advance to game eleven, tomorrow at 2 PM when they face fourth-seeded Roanoke College in the winners bracket.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins came out the gate with fire in their bats to start their rematch against the Yellow Jackets as VWU put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. After the two leadoff batters got out, Julia Sinnett hit a triple to left field to start the Marlins run. Caitlin Myers came to the plate next and smacked a ball over the left field fence, almost to the same spot Sinnett tripled, for a two-run RBI home run. Karlee Fretz doubles to left field but was left on base as Mackenzie Myers popped up to the short stop.
Virginia Wesleyan held Randolph-Macon off the board through the first four innings with the Jackets leaving two runners on the bases during those innings. VWU was held scoreless during the second, third, and fourth, before adding a run in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 3-0. Maria Weddle doubled down the right field line to get on base and she was batted in by Sinnett on a single to left for the score.
The Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to knot ths score at three all.
Neither team managed to find a run to break the tie in the sixth inning, but the Marlins in the top of the seventh took a one-run lead, 4-3. After Haleigh Settle walked, Jaya Diggs-Hagwood came in to pinch run. Diggs-Hagwood advanced to second on Halee Hawkins sac bunt and she came home on a single up the middle by Ariana Rolle for what would ultimately be the game-winning run.
Emily Seale collected the win (17-4) threw a complete game giving up three runs on nine hits.
VWU got some payback over Randolph-Macon College with the victory after the Yellow Jackets swept the Marlins earlier in the season at TowneBank Arena.

The Marlins return to the field again tonight at 2 PM when they face the fourth-seeded Maroons in game eleven in the winners bracket of the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex.
