Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Virginia - The No. 15 ranked Virginia Wesleyan softball team picked up a pair of wins over the Eagles of Bridgewater College in a doubleheader in Bridgewater, VA. VWU won game one 4-0 and took game two 6-2.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins struck first and early scoring two runs in the opening inning. The first run was scored by Maria Weddle who tripled to right field driving in Ariana Rolle. An error by the short stop during Julia Sinnett's at-bat allowed Weddle to score putting VWU up 2-0.
Neither team scored over the next three innings but Virginia Wesleyan struck in the top of the fifth inning. Mackenzie Myers left off the inning with a double to left center field. She was driven in for the Marlins third score of the game on a Spencer Rupinta single to right field.
VWU added their final run in the top of the seventh as Julia Piotrowski stole third and scored on an error by the catcher.
Emily Seale collected the win (15-4) pitching a complete game shutout giving up no runs on four hits and fanning five.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Eagles got the scoring started with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Marlins responded in the top of the second as a Haleigh Settle single to right center drove in a pair of runs scoring Mackenzie Myers and Karlee Fretz to even up the score at two all.
Virginia Wesleyan took the lead in the top of the third with another two runs scored by Maria Weddle and Julia Sinnett. Singles from Caitlin Myers and Fretz drove in the runs for RBI credit.
Neither team scored in the fourth, fifth, or sixth innings, but VWU ended the scoring drought with two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 lead. Weddle reached base with a single to left field with two outs on the board. Sinnett came to the plate and smacked a pitch over the outfield wall for a two-run homer helping VWU win game two 6-2.
Sofia Eskola threw 5.2 innings after coming relief for Lauren Bible in the first inning. Eskola, who collected the win (W, 3-1), gave up no runs on three hits, walked four and struck out two.

The Marlins return to the field again next weekend when they travel to Salem, VA, to compete at the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex. More information about that ODAC Softball tournament is forth coming.
