COLUMBUS, Georgia - The No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan softball team split their games on day two of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, GA on Saturday afternoon. VWU picked up a 5-1 win over Pomona-Pitzer to start the day, but fell 5-2 to the No. 4 Tigers of East Texas Baptist in game two.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins started off hot coming out of the gate to score four runs in the opening frame. The first two runs came in off a double by Julia Sinnett that scored Arianna Role and Caitlin Myers. Sinnett came home off a Julia Piotrowski single that put the score at 3-0. Piotrowski scored the fourth run off a Krissy D'Arco single. 

VWU held the Sagehens scoreless in the bottom of the first and followed by adding a fifth run in the top of the second inning. A sacrifice fly ball to left field by Karlee Fretz scored Rolle to put the score at 5-0. 

Both teams were scoreless through the next four innings until Pomona-Pitzer scored in the bottom of the sixth to hold off the shutout and putting the final score at 5-1.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Neither team found a run in the opening five innings of play, though the Marlins had chances as they left six runners on base through the first five frames. 

ETBU struck first as the Tigers put four runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning. And they added a fifth run in the top of the seventh taking a 5-0 lead. 

The Marlins found a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh off a double by Caitlin Myers the drove home Jaya Diggs-Hagwood and Maria Weddle, but VWU could not quite catch ETBU as the Tigers claimed the game 5-2.

The Marlins wrap up action at the NFCA Leadoff Classic tomorrow against Central and MIT. Game times are set for 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
