Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The No. 3 Virginia Wesleyan softball team fell to the No. 1 Captains of Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon at Tom & Betty Broyles Field at TowneBank Park.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Captains struck early as Roberts hit a two run home run over the left field wall in the top of the first inning to get CNU on the board first leading 2-0.
After keeping the Marlins off the board in the bottom of the first, CNU added three more to their total in the top of the second inning to go up 5-0 after two frames.
VWU held CNU off the board in the third inning while loading the bags in the bottom half of the inning but could not get the hits to bring them in leaving three runners stranded.
A leadoff double for the Captains in the top of the fourth put them in position to drive in their sixth and final run while leaving two runners on base at the end of their at-bat.
Virginia Wesleyan managed to get one runner on base in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings but struggled to bat them around, but finally managed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Julia Piotrowski scored on a sacrifice fly by Caitlin Myers to hold of the shut out.
GAME 2 INFORMATION
Game two was postponed due to rain that came into the area prior to the start of the second contest.

The Marlins are back in action this Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Ferrum, VA for an ODAC match up against the Panthers of Ferrum College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM with game two to follow around 3 PM.
