Box Score 2 SALEM, Virginia - The No. 3 Virginia Wesleyan softball team swept the No. 13 Maroons of Roanoke College in their ODAC season opener in Salem, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The two teams went scoreless through the opening two innings, but the Marlins found the scoreboard in the top of the third inning as Julia Sinnett hit a home run over the left field wall that scored Jaya Diggs-Hagwood and Caitlin Myers to put VWU up 3-0.
Both teams were kept off the board in the fourth, while each team added a single run in the fifth before a sixth inning that saw no scores. For the Marlins in the fifth, Halee Hawkins hit a single to left field that scored Sinnett putting VWU up 4-1.
Virginia Wesleyan in the top of the seventh went to town adding 10 runs in their half inning at the plate. Hawkins was the first to come home following an error during Julia Piotrowski's at-bat. Maria Weddle followed with a sac bunt that scored Brooke Anderson for the second run.
Sinnett hit a single up the middle that scored Ariana Rolle and Diggs-Hagwood for another two RBI. Back-to-back-to-back doubles, one from Karlee Fretz, Anderson, and Piotrowski drove in a combined five runs. The last run was hit in by Weddle with a single to right field putting the final tally at 14-1.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins started off game two hot with a triple by Julia Sinnett that score Caitlin Myers and Ariana Rolle. Sinnett came home shortly after as Karlee Fretz ground out to the shortstop.
Roanoke hit a two RBI home run in the bottom of the inning putting the score at 3-2. Jaya Diggs-Hgwood scored in the top of the second on a wild pitch putting VWU up 4-2, but the Maroons came to the plate in the bottom half of the inning posting four runs and taking a 6-4 lead.
Neither team scored in the next four innings but the Marlins made some noise in the top of the seventh coming back from a 6-4 deficit to take a 7-6 lead. A single by Myers scored Hawkins and Rolle came home during an error on Sinnett's at-bat to knot the score at six all. A bases loaded walk for Maria Weddle scored Myers to give VWU the go-ahead run to win the game.
