Box Score 2 ROCKY MOUNT, North Carolina - The No. 3 Virginia Wesleyan softball team swept the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College in the Battle of the Wesleyan's doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in Rocky Mount, NC.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The two squads battled through the first three innings scoreless as the Marlins left three batters stranded while the Battling Bishops had one left on base through the first half of game one. The Marlins bats came to life in the top of the fourth inning as three runs came across the plate for VWU.
Karlee Fretz led off the inning with a double to left field and Makiya Himes came in to pinch run for the first baseman. Himes advanced to third on a single to center by Madison Hudson. After Haleigh Settle came in to pinch run for Hudson, Himes and Settle successfully completed a double steal with Himes staling home and Settle stealing second, to score the first run of the game. Brooke Anderson got on base after getting hit while at the plate and stole second putting runners in scoring position. A well placed single to right field by Jenna Elswick scored Settle and Anderson for the second and third runs of the game.
Neither team managed to get on the board in the fifth but Virginia Wesleyan in the top of the sixth added another three to their total bring their lead up to 6-0. After back to back singles by Hudson and Mackenzie Myers put runners at first and second, Anderson came to the plate and cranked a hit over the left field wall for a homerun that scored three RBI. NCWC scored one run in the bottom half of the sixth inning and both teams were scoreless in the seventh as VWU claimed its seventh consecutive win, 6-1.
- Emily Seale (W: 8-1) threw all seven innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out eight batters of 27 faced.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins continued to carry on with their momentum from the first game opening the second game with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. A double by Autumn Boothe scored Brooke Anderson and Caitlin Myers.
After a scoreless second inning, VWU added a single run in the top of the third and two more in the fourth to go up 5-0. Another Boothe double in the third scored Julia Piotrowski, while back to back singles from C. Myers and Madison Hudson drove in Maria Weddle and Anderson.
Neither team scored in the fifth and the Marlins added their last run in the top of the sixth as an Anderson sac fly to center field drove in Jaya Diggs-Hagwood.
- Lauren Bible (W: 5-1) threw all seven innings giving up no runs and just four hits. She struck out four batters of 27 faced.
UP NEXT
The Marlins are back in action this Sunday, March 20, when they travel to Salem, VA for their ODAC opener against the Maroons of Roanoke College. VWU and RC will meet at 12 PM for the first pitch of the two game doubleheader.
