Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The No. 3 Virginia Wesleyan softball team swept the Mules of Muhlenberg College in a Monday doubleheader matinee at Tom and Betty Broyles Field at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The teams went scoreless through three innings until the Marlins scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. A double to center field by Madison Hudson scored Karlee Fretz to put VWU up 1-0.
Mulhenberg evened the score in the top of the sixth as a single to center scored the runner from second base. Virginia Wesleyan answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead that they held on too to win the game.
Caitlin Myers scored on an Autumn Boothe double to left field for the first of the four runs. Karlee Fretz singled to right field to score Boothe from third. Julia Piotrowski crossed home plate after Abigail Craige singled to the short stop and a double by Jenna Elswick scored Halee Hawkins for fifth and final run.
- Emily Seale (W: 7-1) threw all seven innings giving up one run on five hits. She struck out four of 27 batters faced.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins got on the scoreboard quickly in the second game posting a solo run in the bottom of the first inning. Mackenzie Myers came home following a fielders choice to the right fielder during Karlee Fretz's at-bat.
Neither team scored in the second inning and Virginia Wesleyan posted a big third inning during which they added seven runs to their tally. Four of the seven runs were walked in including Caitlin Myers, Autumn Boothe, Karlee Fretz, and Brooke Anderson. Madison Hudson scored on an error by the left fielder during Anderson's at-bat. A pair of singles, one from Jaya Diggs-Hagwood and Mackenzie Myers, scored Jenna Laird and Jenna Elswick.
A sac fly to left field by Anderson scored Hawkins in the bottom of the fourth for the last run.

The Marlins are back in action on Wednesday, March 16, when they travel to Rocky Mount, NC, for a midweek doubleheader in the Battle of the Wesleyan's. VWU and NCWC will take to the field at 2 PM with game two to follow at 4 PM.
