Pelham surpasses 1,000 career points in win over Eastern Mennonite

Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - Senior Corey Pelham surpassed the1,000 career point mark with his 14-point performance in Virginia Wesleyan win over the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University. Tim Fisher, Omari Deveaux, and Eric Rowland all collected double-digits in the 80-67 victory at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins got out to an early lead going up 13-1 in the first three and half minutes of play. With 13:28 on the clock, a jumper by Evan Tebay gave VWU an 18-4 lead, but the Royals clawed back over the next six minutes to knot the score at 27 all following a 23-9 rally. After evening the score, EMU took a 32-29 lead, however, VWU closed out the opening half of action on a 13-8 run leading 42-40 at the break. 

Virginia Wesleyan came out in the first five minutes of the second half taking a 13-point lead, 57-44, following a 15-4 run. EMU came as close as nine points twice in the remainder of the half but the Marlins ultimately held on to their double digit lead to win by 13 points, 80-67. 

MARLIN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Tim Fisher with 19 points and 14 rebounds int he game to go along with three steals. Eric Rowland scored 16 points, one shy of tying his career-high, while grabbing eight rebounds. Omari Deveaux contributed 15 points while Corey Pelham added 14. 

ROYALS LEADERS
The Royals were led by Tim Jones with 18 points with Mark Burkholder added 17 points and nine rebounds. Landon Swingler added 10 points while Kobi Alexander added eight points and 10 rebounds. 

UP NEXT
Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, January 29th, when they return to TowneBank Arena to host the Hornets from the University of Lynchburg. Tip off time is set for 2 PM in Virginia Beach, VA.
