Roanoke took an early 5-0 lead before
Adaje Williams scored on a layup to put Virginia Wesleyan on the board. The Maroons added another five points, leading 10-2, when
Celeste Rucker broke up the Maroons rally with five consecutive points of her own pulling VWU within three points, 10-7, with 3:44 in the first quarter. The Marlins put the score at 13-11 at 2:22, after a 4-3 run including baskets from Williams and
Logan Carter, but the Maroons closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run taking an 18-11 lead into the second quarter.
After nearly a ten minute scoreless drought the Marlins scored back to back three pointers from
Jessica Jennings and Carter, putting the score at 31-17 with the Maroons leading by 14. At the halftime break, RC led VWU by 20 points, 37-17.
Roanoke opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run before
Lenah Clements hit a three pointer at the 7:38 mark. Clements added a jumper two minutes later that put the score at 45-22 and the Marlins were held from scoring until the 14 second mark as
Imani Simon added a jumper before the time expired in the third quarter with the score sitting at 60-24.
Nat Collier got VWU the first basket of the fourth quarter but Roanoke answered with a 10-0 run to go ahead 70-26.
Olivia Winslow and Rucker scored back to back baskets for the Marlins and shortly after
Jada Norman added a jumper while Clements hit a three that put the score at 72-35. Virginia Wesleyan went on to score four more points while Roanoke added three as the Maroons claimed a 75-39 victory.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Lenah Clements with eight points on the day.
Celeste Rucker added seven while
Adaje Williams added six.
ROANOKE LEADERS
The Maroons were led by Rose Sande with 14 points followed by Ayanna Scarborough with 13. Renee Alquiza added 11 and Jabryah Haverkamp rounded out Roanokes double-digit scorers with 10 points.
