The Marlins found the scoreboard first off a three pointer by
Corey Pelham and found themselves holding a slim 5-4 lead at the 17:20 mark. Five consecutive points from
Tim Fisher put VWU up 10-4 as the clock ticked up the 16 minute mark. The WildCats pulled within three points, 15-12 following an 8-5 run, but a three pointer by
Anthony Jackson at the 10:30 mark gave VWU an 11 point lead, 26-15, after an 11-3 rally by the Marlins. Randolph chipped away at Virginia Wesleyan's lead pulling within two, 29-27, after a three pointer by Danny Bickey with six minutes on the clock. By the 2:20 mark, Randolph had taken a two-point lead, 35-33, following a pair of free throws, but Jackson knotted the score at 35 all on two free throws of his own. Each team added one basket as the half ended with the teams entering the break even at 37 points apiece.
The Marlins opened up a five point lead that they held on to until the 11 minute mark when the WildCats knotted the score at 51 all and took the lead on a free throw by CJ Loving. After RC took a 54-51 lead, VWU came back on an 8-0 run to reclaim their five-point lead, 59-54, with nine minutes to play. By the five minute mark Virginia Wesleyan had gained an 11 point, 71-60, lead following a jumper by
Jordan Crump. The WildCats with a minute to go, had cut the Marlins lead to just two points, 73-71 after going on an 11-2 rally. A successful free throw by Danny Bickey cut the lead to one with 10 seconds left, but
Tim Fisher scored the final point on a free throw to put VWU up 74-72 to win the game.
