Marlins host reigning National Champs in No. 8 Randolph-Macon in ODAC showdown

Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to the reigning NCAA Division III National Champions in the No. 8 ranked Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets, 66-49, on Wednesday evening at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marlins opened the game with the first basket 20 seconds after winning the jump ball, however, the Yellow Jackets responded with a 9-0 run claiming a 9-2 lead by the 15-minute mark. VWU was within five points, 16-11, after Anthony Jackson connected on a long three-pointer at the 10:36 mark, but R-MC went on an 18-11 run through the remaining 10 minutes taking a 34-22 lead into the halftime break. 

Virginia Wesleyan chipped away at the Randolph-Macon lead pulling back within seven points, 41-34 at 12:42 following a jumper by Amarion Wilson. The Yellow Jackets, however, extended their lead back to double digits following a pair of made free throws at 11:23. From there R-MC never looked back as they went on a 21-15 run to close out the game and win 66-49. 

KEY STATS
The Marlins were led by Khai Seargeant, for the second consecutive game, with 13 points who shot 5-for-7 from the field, while Eric Rowland and Amarion Wilson each added seven points. Wilson led the team with eight rebounds, while Omari DeVeaux tallied three assists. Seargeant also made three steals. 

UP NEXT
Virginia Wesleyan returns to the court on Saturday, Dec. 3, when they travel to Lynchburg, VA, to face the Hornets from the University of Lynchburg. Tip-off is set for 4:30 PM.
