Baseball & Softball join together to establish the 'Diamond Club'

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.  --  The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball and softball programs have joined forces with the formation of the Diamond Club.  Inspired by the Roundball Insiders, led by Head Men's Basketball Coach Dave Macedo, the Diamond Club will be a prominent group of baseball and softball supporters who are interested in further developing both programs with special members-only opportunities.

"The Diamond Club has been a vision for Coach Francis and me for a long time," said Head Softball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director for Advancement Brandon Elliott.  "Our programs have always shared resources and facilities, and supporters of baseball and softball typically have common interests. This is a unique way of formally bringing that all together."

Members of the Diamond Club will meet annually at a luncheon each spring; receive direct correspondence from each program and exclusive Diamond Club apparel in acknowledgment of their membership.  Proceeds from the Diamond Club will be earmarked to support specific needs identified by each program and help fund capital projects inside TowneBank Park, which houses both Kenneth R. Perry for baseball and Tom & Betty Broyles field for softball.

"This just makes sense," echoed Head Baseball Coach Chris Francis. "Our programs share the same values and goals. In addition, Coach Elliott is a proud VWU baseball alum.  Because of our tremendous personal relationship and a similar bond between our players, families, alumni and supporters, we know we can do greater things together."

The Diamond Club's immediate focus will be on the purchase of team lockers and necessities to furnish the forthcoming Watts Fieldhouse at Broyles Field and Baseball Clubhouse at Perry Field, which are scheduled to be constructed in early 2023. Anyone making a gift this year of $500 or more towards these projects will become an inaugural member of the Diamond Club.
