VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team fell to the Cardinals of Catholic University 2-1 in the 2021 season opener on Saturday, September 4, at Foster Field in Trinder Center in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST HALF

• The Marlins controlled possession of the ball for the first 18 minutes of action in the first half with five shots taken in the span. 
• In the 18th minute of action, Catholic got a break away and scored their first goal taking a 1-0 lead. 
• Nine minutes later, Catholic found their second goal in the 27th minute of play going up two-nil over the Marlins. 
• With under seven minutes remaining in the opening half, Virginia Wesleyan found the back of the net on a goal by Carleigh Van Reenen putting the score at 2-1 as the teams entered halftime. 

SECOND HALF

• Neither team found another score in the second half of action despite the Marlins collecting 11 shots to the Cardinals one. 

KEY STATS

• Camryn Terry led the Marlins with four shots, while Julia Marrone and Breacain McClenahan each tallied three. 
• Rachel Quigley (L: 0-1) gave up two goals while also making two saves.
