LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The Virginia Wesleyan Softball Coaching staff was recognized as the Division III Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Monday, June 14.
Led by Head Coach
Brandon Elliott the Marlins went 46-6-1 on the season en route to winning the programs third NCAA National Championship (2017, 2018, 2021) in the last four (complete) seasons. Joining Coach Elliott throughout the season was Associate Head Coach
Jim Quinn, and Assistant Coaches
Chris Smith,
Mary Pilkington '16, and
Bobby Wills.
The honor is the third time in the last five years that the award have been presented to Elliott and staff who earned the accolades in 2017, 2018, and 2021. Coaches Smith, and Wills were each members of the 2018 National Championship team, while Coach Quinn has been present for all three Marlin National Championships.
Coach Elliott, who wrapped up his 14th season at the helm, has accumulated a career coaching record of 507-116-1, with 155 wins coming from their three championship seasons. Elliott has garnered eight ODAC Conference Coach of the Year accolades and has been VaSID All-State Coach of the Year four-times since taking over as head coach in 2008.
