Virginia Wesleyan men's lacrosse ends regular season with a win at Ferrum

FERRUM, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team defeated the Panthers of Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon in conference action in Ferrum, VA.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Ferrum got on the scoreboard first with a goal four minutes into action. The Marlins responded with four consecutive goals, one each from Chris Lindemeyer, Sam Edwards, Mark Sprague, and Joey Rayman, giving VWU a 4-1 lead. FC pulled within a goal after putting two goals on the board while VWU closed out the first quarter with a goal from Nathan Sheirburn to lead 5-3 heading into the second quarter.

The Panthers scored two goals in the second while the Marlins added one to maintain a 6-5 lead heading onto halftime. Virginia Wesleyan's goal came from Mark Sprague unassisted. 

Virginia Wesleyan scored three goals to open the third quarter taking a 9-5 lead. Sprague, Sheirburn, and Cole Maguire each scored one of the opening goals. Ferrum pulled within two, 9-7, after closing the third quarter with two goals. 

VWU reopened a four goal lead after Sheirburn scored two goals 40 seconds apart giving the Marlins an 11-7 lead. A pair of Ferrum goals sandwiched a goal by Lindemeyer putting the score at 12-9 in favor of the Marlins. Maguire and Sprague each scored once more putting the VWU lead at 14-9 while Ferrum got in the goal putting the final score at 14-10.
