No. 1 Marlins split. doubleheader against Shenandoah

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan softball team split their doubleheader against the Hornets of Shenandoah on Friday afternoon in ODAC conference action at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA.

  • The Hornets of Shenandoah got the scoring started in the top of the third with a pair of runs taking a 2-0 lead.
  • They followed with three more runs in the top of the fourth to go up 5-0.
  • VWU put their first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Makenzie Watts singled to left field to score Julie Fassl
  • The Marlins added another single run in the bottom of the seventh but despite having runners on base could not bat them around to even up the score as VWU fell 5-2 in game one.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The Marlins bats came to life in game two as VWU scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. Eight of the nine batters in the starting lineup scored a run in the first inning with Jessica Goldyn scoring twice.
  • VWU added four more runs in the second inning to go ahead 13-0, a score that held through the next three innings as Virginia Wesleyan won in five innings.

The Marlins are home tomorrow, Friday, April 23, doubleheader against Shenandoah originally scheduled for Saturday but was pushed up a day because of weather. They will close the regular season with a make up game against the Maroons of Roanoke on Sunday, April 25, before heading into the ODAC tournament next week.
