Box Score

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - The No. 4 Virginia Wesleyan softball team defeated the Falcons of Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon in neutral sight action at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. The Marlins move to 9-0 while the Falcons are now 4-4.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins began the scoring putting one run up in the top of the first inning as a Julia Sinnett single to second base scored Katelyn Biando from second. VWU kept Pfeiffer off the board in the bottom of the first, and added two more runs in the top of the second to go ahead 3-0.

After the led off struck out, Madison Hudson doubled to right center field to put a Marlin on base. The designated player Julia Piotrowski walked to put runners on first and second for Ariana Rolle who reached base on an error by the third baseman which scored Hudson and advanced Piotrowski to third putting runners on the corners. Jessica Goldyn hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Piotrowski for the second run of the inning.

Neither team recorded a run in the third inning but Virginia Wesleyan came up with a single score in the fourth furthering their lead to 4-0. After the first two batters were thrown out a double play by the Falcons, Rolle reached base with a single to center field. She was batted in for the score on Goldyn's at-bat during which the catcher tripled to left center field for the RBI.

Virginia Wesleyan added three runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 7-0. Biando scored one RBI driving Goldyn home on a double down the left field line. Madison Glaubke drove in two more RBI on a single up the middle that scored Biando and Julia Sinnett from third and second respectively.

Pfeiffer made their last attempt for a comeback in the bottom of the seventh by adding three runs on a home run of the right center field wall but could not come back to tie the score as the Marlins won 7-3.
