Men's Soccer end match against Bridgewater with second consecutive 2OT draw

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team ended their match against the Eagles of Bridgewater College in a 1-1 double overtime draw on Thursday evening at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA. The Marlins move to 0-1-2 while the Eagles are also 0-1-2.

GAME INFORMATION
The teams came out pretty even in the first 10 minutes of action with Bridgewater getting off four shots to the Marlins three. VWU got off a trio of shots between the 13th and 16th minutes with none finding the back of the net. Each team got a few more shots off while one athlete from each squad picked up a yellow for aggressive play as both teams entered the halftime break knotted up nil-nil.

The Marlins with fifteen minutes remaining in regulation found the first score of the game for either team as Scott Signorelli shot the ball into the net off the assists from Deryck Burczyk and Michael Nocera. VWU looked as though they were set for victory but Bridgewater said otherwise as they added the equalizing goal by Kalefa Boyar with 26 seconds remaining in regulation which forced an overtime period. 

VWU out shot the Eagles in the first overtime period 4-1 and 2-1 in second OT as neither team put up the go-ahead game winner ending in a draw.
 
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Evan Kastetter with four shots while Jaron Berry and Juan Tovar each got off three apiece. Scott Signorelli scored the lone goal for the Marlins with Deryck Burczyk and Michael Nocera added an assist. Griffin Potter (0-0-2) played all 110 minutes between the pipes giving up one goal while making four saves.

BRIDGEWATER LEADERS
The Eagles were led by Kalefa Boyar with the lone goal for Bridgewater. Matthew Shelor led the team in shots with four. Tyler Deutsch
 
UP NEXT
The Marlins return to action on Sunday, March 7, when they travel to Lynchburg, VA to take on the Hornets from the University of Lynchburg in ODAC competition. Kick off is set for 4 PM between the Marlins and Hornets.
