Men's Soccer shuts out Wasps of Emory & Henry 4-0

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team defeated the Wasps of Emory and Henry College on Sunday afternoon in a neutral site game at Hellmuth-Gibson Field in Hampden-Sydney, VA.

FIRST HALF

  • The Marlins found the scoreboard first in the 23rd minute of action as Kevin Prophet scored off the pass from Andrew Glass
  • Twenty minutes later, VWU added a second goal as Darwin Salguero connected with the back of the net giving the Marlins a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

SECOND HALF

  • Virginia Wesleyan increased its lead to three as Noah McBride scored off a pass from Alexander Moody two minutes into the return to action. 
  • The Marlins added their fourth and final goal in the 62nd minute as Scott Signorelli scored off another well placed pass from Moody.

KEY STATS

  • Four Marlins scored in the contest while Alexander Moody added two assists.
  • Scott Signorelli led the Marlins with six shots, three on goal including the fourth VWU goal.
  • Griffin Potter (W: 1-2-2) played 69:54 minutes in goal to earn the win. Tallon Allway got 13:48 minutes of action between the pipes while Josh Reid played 6:18 minutes.
UP NEXT
The Marlins return to action next on Sunday, March 28, when they return to Virginia Beach to host the Panthers of Ferrum College in game two of a men's and women's doubleheader. Kick off is scheduled for 4:30 PM or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
