Marlins fall to Hornets of Shenandoah in ODAC Field Hockey action

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team fell to the Hornets of Shenandoah University 8-0 on Friday afternoon in windy ODAC competition at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Shenandoah took the lead early as Lauren Tyre found the opening point four and a half minutes into the contest. 
  • Ten minutes later SU found their second goal as the teams heading into the second quarter with the Hornets leading 2-0.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The Marlins only allowed one goal in the second quarter as Abby Barefoot scored off the penalty corner after Farren Winter and Hannah Mink both helped get the ball to her.
  • At the half, the Marlins trailed 3-0 to the Shenandoah Hornets. 

THIRD QUARTER

  • VWU gave up a lone goal in the third quarter to trail 4-0 after 45 minutes of play while also recording their lone shot of the game that was controlled predominately by Shenandoah.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • The Hornets further extended their lead in the fourth quarter adding four more goals to the board to win 8-0 over the home Marlins.

UP NEXT
The field hockey team returns  to action again on Friday March 26th when they travel to Randolph-Macon College for an ODAC contest. The Marlins and Yellow Jackets will meet at 7 PM in Ashland, VA.  The game that was scheduled for the 23rd has been postponed with a make-up date set for April 12.
