Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - The No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan softball team split their two game series against the No. 5 Captains of Christopher Newport University in a non-conference midweek doubleheader in Newport News, VA.

GAME RUNDOWN
- The Marlins were held off the scoreboard in the top of the first inning while the Captains took an early 1-0 lead as Proctor stole home on a triple steal play by CNU.
- VWU responded in the top of the second with a run to knot the score at one all off of a Madison Glaubke homerun over the left field wall.
- The Captains again took the lead in the bottom half of the inning as Palmer-Scott scored on a wild pitch to put CNU up 2-1.
- Virginia Wesleyan had an opportunity to score in the top of the third but couldn't bat in Jessica Goldyn from third and gave up seven runs in the bottom half of the inning which gave CNU a 9-1 lead.
- The lead off batter Madison Hudson walked and stole second but the next three to the plate went back to the dugout leaving the runner stranded.
- CNU added one more run in the bottom of the fourth taking a 10-1 advantage and sent the Marlins back in order in the top of the fifth to end the game in five innings via run rule.
KEY STATS
- Madison Glaubke scored the lone run of the game on an RBI homer over the left field wall.
- Jessica Goldyn and Krissy D'Arco each recorded a hit in a game were the Marlins ony tallied three.
- Hanna Hull (L: 6-1) threw 100 pitches giving up eight runs on four hits to 21 batters faced. She walked 10 and struck out two.

- Game two began with three scoreless innings for both teams despite the Marlins leaving the bases load in the top of the first as well as the top of the fourth.
- CNU found the opening run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Hasty homered over the left field wall.
- VWU responded in the top of the fifth adding a pair of runs to take the 2-1 lead. Madison Glaubke scored on a Julia Sinnett double after first reaching on a walk and stealing second. Sinnett then came on home after reaching third on a wild pitch and scoring on an error by the catcher.
- Both teams went scoreless in the sixth and VWU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Sinnett led off with a triple to right field and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Stewart to put the score at 3-1.
- The Marlins ended the game with a four-three double play as the batter lined out to Katelyn Biando (second base) and she threw to Danielle Stewart (first base) for the final two outs and securing the VWU 3-1 victory.
KEY STATS
- Julia Sinnett scored twice on two hits in here three appearances to the plate while also driving in an RBI.
- Madison Glaubke was the other Marlin to score as she came home on Sinnett's double to center field.
- Emily Seale (W: 7-1) threw all seven innings giving up one run on three hits and striking out three of 24 batters faced.
