WINCHESTER, Virginia - The No. 3 Virginia Wesleyan softball team swept both games in the ODAC conference opener at Shenandoah University on Sunday afternoon in Winchester, VA.

- Jessica Goldyn scored the first run for the Marlins in game one on a groundout by Katelyn Biando to the shortstop.
- VWU struck again in the third inning as Madison Glaubke scored Makenzie Watts and Goldyn after reaching second on a single through the left side and error by the left fielder pushing the Marlins lead to 3-0.
- In the top of the fourth, Goldyn tripled to left center field that scored Watts and Krissy D'Arco increasing the lead to 5-0.
- D'Arco in the fifth singled to short which was enough to drive in Daja Burgee for the sixth run of the game and Abigail Craige in the top of the fifth hit a sac fly to center to score Goldyn giving VWU a 7-0 lead.
- Shenandoah scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the Marlin shutout, however, Virginia Wesleyan had a big top of the seventh scoring six runs, five of which came off of two home runs.
- Burgee drove in the first two runs of the seventh on a 2 RBI homer over the center field wall which scored Glaubke on the play.
- A few batters later, Julie Fassl singled to center field which scored teammate D'Arco for the 10th run of the contest.
- Craige followed Fassl with a three RBI homer over the center field wall pushing the Marlin lead to 13-2.
- The Hornets added two runs in the bottom of the seventh but Virginia Wesleyan's lead was too large to overcome as VWU won game one 13-4.
KEY STATS
- Freshman Abigail Craige led the Marlins with four RBI and a run on one hit in one at-bat.
- Jessica Goldyn and Daja Burgee each added two RBI on two hits. Goldyn crossed the home plate three times while Burgee crossed twice.
- Hanna Hull (W: 7-0) picked up the win throwing four innings during which she gave up just one hit while striking out three and walking two.

- Neither team scored in the opening innings but Virginia Wesleyan didn't wait long after to find its first run as a single by Makenzie Watts scored Danielle Stewart to take a 1-0 lead.
- Shenandoah knotted the score at one all in the bottom of the third on an RBI single to right field.
- VWU added four more runs in the fourth inning beginning with a Julie Fassl double to left center scored Stewart.
- The next play, Krissy D'Arco reached on an error by the shortstop that scored Julia Sinnett from third, and Jessica Goldyn tripled for the second time on the day to clear the bases as Fassl and D'Arco both scored driving VWU's lead up to 5-1.
- The Hornets added two in the bottom of the fourth to pull within two, 5-3, after an error by the right fielder allowed the runners to advance home.
- Goldyn in the top of the sixth doubled to center field which score Fassl and D'Arco for the second time in the game to go ahead 7-3.
- And VWU sealed the deal in the top of the seventh as a pair of singles, one from Abigail Craige (1 RBI) and the other from Brooke Anderson (2 RBI), drove in three more runs putting the final score at 10-3.
KEY STATS
- Jessica Goldyn led game two with four RBI on four hits in five at-bats. Goldyn was a homerun shy of the cycle as she hit at least one single, double, and triple in the game.
- Danielle Stewart crossed home plate three times while recording two hits in two at-bats.
- Julie Fassl, Krissy D'Arco, and Julia Sinnett all crossed home plate twice on the 10-3 win.
- Emily Seale (W: 6-1) threw all seven innings giving up just three runs on six hits while striking out five and walking one.
