LEXINGTON, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team fell in the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship match to the Generals of Washington and Lee University in three sets finishing the season as ODAC Tournament runners up.

MATCH RECAP
The Generals got out to an early lead in the first set going up 8-3 right off the bat. Washington and Lee soon opened up a ten-point lead, 15-5, following a 7-2 rally. The Marlins pulled within six points trailing 21-15 after a 10-6 run of their own, but WLU closed out the set scoring four of the last six points to win 25-17.
The Marlins opened the second set scoring the first four points of the set but the Generals quickly recovered going on a 14-2 rally to lead 14-6. Virginia Wesleyan climbed back within four points, 15-11, after a 5-1 run, but Washington and Lee took off again going on a 6-2 spurt taking a 21-13 advantage. Both teams scored four points to close out the set with the Generals winning set two 25-17.
WLU opened the third set with a 4-2 run but VWU responded scoring four straight points to lead 6-4 after a Kathryn Yeager ace. Washington & Lee took the next three points to go up by one, 7-6, but a setting error by the Generals knotted the score up at seven all. The Generals went ahead 12-9 but the Marlins came back to knot the score at 13 all after which the teams traded points back and forth remaining tied up over the next 12 points. WLU took a 20-19 lead but VWU responded with four points in a row to go up 23-20. The Generals called timeout to collect themselves and after returning to the court scored five consecutive points to win set three 25-23 and claim back-to-back ODAC Championships.
KEY STATS
- Emma Claytor and Sydney Collins led the Marlins with six kills each while Claytor also contributed six blocks on the afternoon.
- Haley Sutton collected 13 assists in the match while Alexis Davies-Hackenberg added 10 of her own.
- Morgan Ludovici led the back line with 10 digs while Sutton added eight of her own.
- Kathryn Yeager tallied five kills and seven digs in the match.
