VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - Mackenzie Kerns' goal for the Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team helped propel the Marlins to ODAC Conference Tournament semifinals. The No. 1 seeded Marlins will host the winner of the Washington & Lee (No. 4) versus Bridgewater (No. 5) match that kicks off tonight at 7 PM.

FIRST HALF

• The Marlins controlled possession of the ball throughout much of the first half but neither team managed to find a goal in the opening half of play despite the Marlins getting off five shots while only allowing the Maroons one. 

SECOND HALF

• The teams battled throughout the second half with Roanoke playing more aggressive soccer and holding possession of the ball for a majority of the half. The Maroons got back-to-back shots both of which hit off the top crossbar in the 67th minute but the Marlins managed to clear the ball to keep the match even nil-nil.
• After another 20 minutes of action passed by, Virginia Wesleyan found the back of the net off the foot of senior defender Mackenzie Kerns to put VWU up 1-0 with 1:40 left on the clock. 
• Roanoke tried all they could to get the ball to their attacking half but the late shot of energy following Kern's goal helped the Virginia Wesleyan hold off the Maroons to win 1-0. 

KEY STATS

• Mackenzie Kerns led the team with five shots on goal including the game winning score in the 89th minute. 
• Olivia Bryant also got off five shots for the Marlins while Carleigh Van Reenen and Camryn Terry both added four a piece. 
• Amruta Karkare collected the win in goal playing all 90 minutes making one save while shutting out the Maroons.
