VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The No. 6 Virginia Wesleyan softball team defeated the Pride of Greensboro College 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Tom and Betty Broyles Field in TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA. The Marlins improve to 10-1 on the season while the Pride are now 9-4.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Marlins taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first following a double stolen base scenario with Danielle Stewart stealing second allow Jessica Goldyn to steal home. The next two innings were scoreless for both teams before Virginia Wesleyan scored their second run in the bottom of the fourth as Julia Sinnett ran home on a Katlin Biando single to centerfield. 

VWU put two more up on the board in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 4-0 over GC. A Goldyn double to leftfield scored Ariana Rolle from second base for the first of the two runs. The second run scored on a sac-fly by Sinnett to left field that advanced Goldyn home from third and before Maria Weddle got picked off in a pickle scenario. 

Hanna Hull and the Marlin defense shut down the Pride in the sixth and seventh en route to their 4-0 win.

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Jessica Goldyn with two runs on one hit with one RBI in two at-bats. Goldyn walked once and stole a team-high three bases in the game. Julia Sinnett and Katelyn Biando each tallied an RBI while Sinnett and Ariana Rolle both crossed home for a run.

Hanna Hull (W, 8-0) pitched a full game giving up just three hits with one walk and a whopping 10 strikeouts. 

GREENSBORO LEADERS
The Pride was led by Carolina Stanley, Alexis Sox, and Jordan Deaton with one hit each. Cheyanne Cox (L, 5-2) threw a complete game giving up four runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts in six innings pitched.

UP NEXT
Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on March 16 when they take to the field in Waipahu, HI, for their spring break trip to the west coast. VWU will face the Beavers of Babson College at 2 PM EST/9 AM HST. They will follow with an 11 AM HST game against the Big Red of Denison University.
