Box Score 2 #8 Softball Stays Unbeaten in ODAC Play with Sweep of Randolph
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The No. 8-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College softball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a pair of victories, 7-4 and 2-0, over Randolph College on Saturday.
The Marlins jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first when Cassetty Howerin homered home Courtney Bogan and Kayla Dost.
Randolph responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half on an RBI single by Dianne Davis and a run scoring groundout.
The Marlins scored four unanswered in the middle innings to pull away. The spurt was highlighted by a two-RBI single by Jessica Lindsay.
Howerin drove in three while scoring a pair of runs in game one. Mary Shipp (10-3) earned the win with just one earned run allowed in seven innings.
The Marlins struck first in game two as well as Blake Henderson singled home Bogan for a 1-0 edge.
That's the lone run Kandis Kresinske (10-1) would need as the first-year allowed just three hits while striking out seven in the shutout.
VWC got an insurance run in the sixth when Teresa Cardamone entered as a pinch hitter to single home Liz Bailey.
Henderson went 4-for-4 while Bogan stole three bases.
