Box Score Softball Prepares for Strike Out Cancer Day
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College softball team is preparing for its eighth annual Strike Out Cancer Day, to be held Saturday, April 16 at 12:30 p.m. prior to the start of the Marlins' doubleheader with Emory & Henry College. The baseball team will also be involved in the pre-game festivities prior to its doubleheader at 1 p.m.
The Marlins have set a goal of $15,000 this year, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, specifically toward cancer research. Since 2009, the softball team has raised $65,007 for cancer research through the event, including $11,878 from last year's event.
Fans are encouraged to come out Saturday and bring the whole family as there will be music, ladder golf, corn hole, bounce houses, and food provided by GENESIS Ministries.
A silent auction will also be held with over 50 items to bid on. Proceeds from the auction will also go to the American Cancer Society. Some of the items to be auctioned off include multiple baskets, a four-pack of tickets to the Norfolk Tides, a boat cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk, passes for four to the Virginia Aquarium Adventure Park, and an autographed baseball bat from New York Met all-star and Chesapeake native, David Wright, in addition to other exciting items.
Admission for the event will be $5, with the gate going to the American Cancer Society.
Donations can be made at the event, or by emailing head coach Brandon Elliott at: belliott@vwc.edu. Fans are also encouraged to donate on the Virginia Wesleyan donation page: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/vwcstrikeoutcancer
