Box Score 2 SALISBURY, Md. -- Chelsea Henline, Jaclyn Quinn, Kristina Karagiorgis and Season Dailey all belted out third inning singles to score two runs in a 2-0 victory over the No. 18 ranked Sea Gulls of Salisbury University.
Salisbury (11-5) came back to eqrn the split however, posting a 4-2 win.
Virginia Wesleyan out-hit Salisbury 8-3 in the first game, including a pair of doubles from Tori Higginbotham. The Marlins scored all the runs they needed in the second inning, as Henline, Quinn, Karagiorgis, and Dailey hit consecutive singles.
Salisbury was unable to generate a scoring threat in the game as VWC rookie pitcher Karagiorgis gave up just three hits, while walking two and striking out four, improving her early season record to 5-0. Higginbotham and Dailey led the Marlins' offense with two hits each.
Virginia Wesleyan out-hit the Guls 10-5 in the second game, but could not turn them into runs. Salisbury scored two runs in each of the first two innings for 4-0 lead.
The Marlins made things interesting with a seventh inning rally that started with a Higginbotham single. Henline followed by reaching base on an error and Quinn and Karagiorgis followed with singles to score two runs.
Sara Erlichman started in the circle for VWC before MacKenzie Creech entered in the second inning to pitch the remainder of the game. Creech struck out one batter and allowed just one hit. Erlichman allowed four hits. Neither VWC pitcher recorded a walk.
Higginbotham was solid at the plate for the Marlins, hitting 4-for-4. Karagiorgis added a pair of singles.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Saturday, March 17, hosting Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference twinbill beginning at 1 p.m.
