EMORY, Va. -- It was a solid Sunday at the plate for the Virginia Wesleyan College softball Marlins who connected for 19 hits to help produce a 10-0 and 9-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the host Wasps of Emory & Henry College.

Virginia Wesleyan's offense included 12 extra base hits, highlighted by four home runs.  Tori Higginbotham (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) led that effort with two homers and Kristina Karagiorgis (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) and Season Dailey (Norfolk, Va./Virginia Beach Frank W. Cox) recorded one each.

Higginbotham recorded an outstanding day with the bat, hitting 6-for8, with four doubles and the two homers.

Karagiorgis extended her impressive pitching start, recording her third no-hitter in the 10-0 victory.  She pitched in four innings of the first game, striking out seven and allowing just one walk.  Lindsay Izana (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) and Sara Erlichman (Bedford, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) followed her for an inning each and gave up nothing.

Virginia Wesleyan did not hit the scoreboard until the second inning, but post four runs and never looked back.  Karagiorgis helped the Marlins with a single, double and home run.

Emory & Henry opened the second game taking the lead with a solo run in the bottom of the second inning.  But, it was the only lead for the Wasps as Virginia Wesleyan put together nine runs over the next three innings to end the game in five innings.

Karagiorgis picked up her second pitching win of the day, working three innings.  She struck out three, walked four and allowed one hit, one run and one earned run. Izana and Erlichman followed for an inning each.

Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Wednesday, March 14, at Salisbury University at 2 p.m.
