Andrea Hoover-Erbig took on the position of Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Virginia Wesleyan University in 2021, following a successful 15-year tenure as the women's volleyball program coach. During her time at VWU, she served in key roles such as Head Women's Volleyball Coach, Senior Woman Administrator, and Academic Integration Coordinator, leaving a significant impact on each program.

In her current capacity, Hoover-Erbig is at the helm of a dynamic athletic department, encompassing 25 intercollegiate sports and a vibrant community of over 400 dedicated student-athletes. Under her leadership, the Marlins compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), and NCAA Division III.  The Marlins also sponsor a nationally competitive Esports team.

Before stepping into her current role, Hoover-Erbig enjoyed a storied career as the head coach of the volleyball team, culminating in her departure from coaching in the fall of 2020 with an impressive 293-166 record, the best in program history. Six of her teams recorded at least 20 wins in a single season, and she was twice recognized as ODAC Coach of the Year.

Hoover-Erbig’s educational journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education, with a minor in adapted physical activity and rehabilitation, from Slippery Rock University in 1999. She furthered her academic pursuits, earning a Master of Arts in education from Marietta College in 2006. She was a four-year letter winner in volleyball at Slippery Rock.

Her coaching experience extends beyond VWU, with a stint as an assistant coach at Marietta College in Ohio. She also served as the head coach of Northern High School in Maryland for two seasons, leading the team to Maryland Regionals in both years and even contributing to state championships in 2000 and 2001 as an assistant coach.

Hoover-Erbig succeeded Joanne Renn as Athletics Director, following Renn's illustrious 12-year tenure as VWU's athletics director, which was preceded by 14 years as a coach.

Under Hoover-Erbig's leadership, the Virginia Wesleyan University Athletic Department has witnessed a remarkable surge in fundraising initiatives. Brandon Elliott's appointment as the first Assistant Athletic Director for Advancement marked a significant step in this direction. Notably, the Marlin Athletic Fund has evolved into one of the most successful athletics fundraising programs, distinguishing itself among private colleges within the ECAC and ODAC.

This success extends beyond the realm of competition, as the program has played a pivotal role in enhancing the university's athletic facilities. Private gifts have enabled the construction and improvement of numerous facilities, including Birdsong Field, the Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Center, Broyles Field at TowneBank Park, the East Gate campus entrance leading to the adjoining Marlin Way, upgrades and the naming of Kenneth R. Perry Field, the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex, the Trinder Center, Batten Natatorium, Cunningham Multipurpose Activities Center, Bonnewell Sports Medicine Center, and the Everett Tennis Center. Perhaps one of the most notable transformations was the full renovation and modernization of Convocation Hall within the Jane P. Batten Student Center, subsequently christened as TowneBank Arena.

As Virginia Beach’s university, indoor track and field now calls the state-of-the-art Virginia Beach Sports Center home and other teams benefit from the supplemental use of the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Cypress Point Country Club is the home of the VWU golf teams.

This commitment to advancing athletic infrastructure has underscored the university's dedication to providing exceptional opportunities for its student-athletes.

Andrea is married to Chris Erbig. They have four children: Alex, Peyton, and twins Sam and Sophie.
