Jim Quinn

Jim Quinn begins his sixteenth season with the Virginia Wesleyan softball program in 2025-26. Quinn works primarily with the catchers and hitters, specializing in bunting and short game disciplines.

He helped guide the Marlins to 11th ODAC titles between 2011 and 2025. 

Quinn has been a member of the VWU coaching staff for each of the three National Championship wins in 2017, 2018, and 2021, as well as a member of two National Coaching Staffs of the Year. 

Quinn assisted the Marlins in their third NCAA National Championship run and helped coach the NFCA National Player of the Year in Jessica Goldyn. Goldyn also garnered the New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award as the NCAA leader for most stolen bases in a season, as well as being named the Diamond Sports/NFCA Catcher of the Year. 

The Marlins have collected 30+ win seasons every year, with the exception of the 2020 COVID year, since 2012 and 11 seasons with 30+ wins since Quinn has been a member of the coaching staff. 

The 2017 saw the Marlins win their first NCAA National Championship en route to breaking the NCAA record for games won in a season at 54 with a 54-3 record. Virginia Wesleyan repeated the following year with their second consecutive National Championship and again broke the NCAA record for wins in a season at 55 with a 55-3 record.

Quinn has helped produce 21 All-Americans: Tori Higginbotham (2012, 2013, 2014), Kristina Kargiorgis (2012, 2015), Courtney Bogan (2015, 2016), Kandis Kresinske (2016), Cassetty Howerin (2016, 2017, 2018), Kiersten Richardson (2017), Hanna Hull (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021), Julia Sinnett (2019), Jessica Goldyn (2021), Emily Seale (2021), Laci Campbell (2025), and Lauren Bible (2025).

In addition, he has been there for six State Players of the Year, seven State Pitchers of the Year, three State Rookies of the Year and 42 All-State honorees to go with 47 All-Region selection and 82 All-ODAC recipients. There have also been eight ODAC Players of the Year under his tenure.

He is the former assistant coach at Grassfield High School and has coached several highly recognized club softball teams, including the Orion Hunter and the Virginia Lady Eagles. He is a NFCC Two Star Master Coach with the NFCA.

Quinn and his wife, Diane, reside in Chesapeake. The pair have two children, Jaclyn and David. Jaclyn, a standout on the VWC softball team, graduated in 2012. David is a 2012 graduate of Old Dominion University.
